John Wesley Hardin was one of the most notorious outlaws in the Wild West. He was born in 1853 in Texas, and by the age of 15, he had already killed a man. Hardin went on to kill at least 27 more people, making him one of the most prolific killers in American history.
In his novel The Pistoleer, John Boessenecker tells the story of Hardin's life from his early days as a young gunfighter to his eventual capture and imprisonment. Boessenecker paints a vivid picture of the Wild West, and he brings Hardin to life as a complex and contradictory figure.
Hardin was a cold-blooded killer, but he was also a man of honor. He had a strict code of conduct, and he always fought fair. Hardin was also a loyal friend, and he would often go to great lengths to help those he cared about.
The Pistoleer is a fascinating and well-written novel. Boessenecker does an excellent job of capturing the essence of the Wild West, and he brings Hardin to life as a complex and compelling character. The Pistoleer is a must-read for anyone interested in the Wild West, true crime, or American history.
