The Story
Iron Gold takes place ten years after the events of Red Rising. Darrow, once a Red slave, is now a leader of the Rising, a rebel movement fighting to overthrow the Golds, the ruling class who have oppressed the Reds for centuries. With the Golds on the brink of collapse, Darrow must navigate a treacherous path as he tries to unite the different factions of the Rising and bring about a new era of equality.
But Darrow's path is not without its challenges. The Golds are still a formidable enemy, and they are determined to crush the Rising at all costs. Darrow must also contend with internal divisions within the Rising, as well as the threat of a new enemy that has emerged from the shadows.
The Characters
Iron Gold features a cast of complex and compelling characters. Darrow remains the central figure, and his journey in this sequel is both inspiring and heartbreaking. He is joined by a host of new characters, including Lyria, a young Gold who is torn between her loyalty to her people and her growing sympathy for the Reds; Ephraim, a Red who has been hardened by years of slavery; and Cassius, a Gold who is secretly working against his own people.
The Themes
Like its predecessor, Iron Gold explores a number of important themes, including the nature of power, the cost of freedom, and the importance of hope. Brown does not shy away from the dark side of humanity, but he also offers a glimmer of hope that even in the darkest of times, change is possible.
The Writing
Pierce Brown's writing is both powerful and lyrical. He creates a vivid and immersive world that draws readers in and keeps them turning the pages. His characters are complex and well-developed, and his story is both thrilling and thought-provoking.
Iron Gold is a must-read for fans of Red Rising and for anyone who enjoys a thrilling sci-fi adventure. Pierce Brown has crafted a sequel that is both epic and intimate, and that will leave readers eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series.
